Learn how to help injured birds and protect our community.

Birds can get injured flying into windows. Try these ideas to help birds stay safe.

  • You can place streamers or a decorative windsock in front of the problem window. The movement will help ward off birds.

  • A few lines of light-colored string hung loosely across the window can also be effective.

  • UV reflective “bird safe” decals can be attached to windows – almost invisible to humans, but a bright signal to a bird’s superior eye.

  • Stained-glass ornaments attached by suction cups on the outside surface can be used to break up the reflective and transparent properties of the glass.

Some people say that domestic cats are the single largest human-caused mortality factor for wild birds. Over 2.4 billion birds are killed by domestic cats in the United States alone. We can prevent this by keeping our cats inside and as a bonus your cats stay safe from other wildlife.

Many birds are injured by trying to enter chimneys. One way you can prevent them from entering is getting a screen for your chimney.
